Project Lead the Way: Biomedical Technology
Industry Sector: Medical
Pathway: Principles of Biomedical Science, Human Body Systems
Program Description
3D animation is a one-term course designed for students interested in integrating technology and art. This beginning course will give students the artistic knowledge and technology skills needed to create computer animations. Students will learn how to design basic stock shapes and will then progress into more complicated projects where they will create their own characters. Students will learn how to manipulate shapes, textures, and colors while changing motion, camera placement, and lighting.
Sequence of Classes
PLTW: Principles of Biomedical Science:
In this course, students explore the human body and learn about research processes and bioinformatics. Through hands-on projects, students investigate human body systems and various health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, sickle-cell disease, hypercholesterolemia, and infectious diseases.
Throughout the course, students collaborate to determine the factors that led to the death of a fictional person and explore how lifestyle choices and medical treatments could have extended their life. Key biological concepts include homeostasis, metabolism, inheritance, feedback systems and disease defense. The course also integrates engineering principles like the design process, fluid dynamics and the relationship between structure and function.
PLTW: Human Body Systems:
In this course, students explore the processes, structures, and interactions of human body systems, learning how they work together to maintain internal balance and good health. Using real-world cases, students step into the role of biomedical professionals, collaborating to solve medical mysteries. Hands-on projects involve designing experiments and investigating the structures and functions of the human body.
