Program Description

The Construction Technologies CTE program offers students hands-on training in woodworking, carpentry, and advanced construction techniques. Beginning with tool safety and basic woodshop skills, students progress to building structural models and residential components while learning essential industry practices. Through dual enrollment with Sierra College, students gain college credit while deepening their understanding of structural systems, finishing techniques, and construction codes. The capstone course challenges students to apply their skills by planning and building real-world projects that meet professional standards and building regulations.


Sequence of Classes

Intro Course - Construction Technology 1

(UC/CSU 'G' Elective)

This is a basic woodshop class. Construction Technology 1 is a one-term course. This course is designed for general level and college-bound students. Students will learn tool and equipment safety and operation through hands-on activities and construction projects. In addition, students will study construction materials, assembly processes, and finishing techniques. The fundamentals of cabinetmaking, furniture construction, and woodcarving will be covered. Students will design, plan, and build a variety of projects using hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and computer software. Lab fee.

Concentrator Course - Dual Enrollment Construction Technology 2

Sierra College: BI 0005

This is a basic carpentry class that teaches beginning and intermediate carpentry skills. This course is designed for general level and college-bound students. Students will learn personal and work-site safety as practiced in the construction and engineering industry. In addition, students will study building construction including site preparation, forming, framing, interior and exterior finishes, mechanical and electrical systems, and construction welding. The fundamentals of carpentry will be covered giving students the chance to practice both structural and finish carpentry. Students will design, plan, and build a variety of model buildings and actual residential structures. Lab fee.

Capstone Course - Dual Enrollment Construction Technology 3

Sierra College: BI 0003

This is an advanced cabinet making class. Construction Technology 3 is a one-term course. This course is designed for general level and college-bound students. Students will build real-world projects, reinforcing their understanding of structural engineering and advanced carpentry. Students will plan, design, and construct projects following actual building codes. **Course may be repeated for additional credit.
