Tournament Results

2025-2026 Closing Message:

The Woodcreek Speech & Debate Team is proud to close out another exceptional season. This year has been truly inspiring, marked by hard work, resilience, and remarkable achievement. We finished league competition with an impressive 148 awards and advanced twenty competitors to the state championships, an accomplishment that reflects months of dedication and heart.

At the California High School Speech Association (CHSSA) Capitol Valley Forensic League State Qualifying Tournaments, 27 students competed in speech events and 16 in debate. From this talented group, 20 competitors earned spots at the State Championships. In total, 25 entries qualified, with several students advancing in multiple events, demonstrating the depth and versatility of our team (though each will compete in just one event in accordance with CHSSA rules).

We also began the spring season at the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, one of the largest and most competitive tournaments in the nation. Competing against more than 138 schools and 1,400 students, our team rose to the occasion and brought home seven awards, an outstanding showing on one of speech and debate’s biggest stages.

Our seniors continue to lead by example. Emily Botwinik and Jacey Huang were honored by the Capitol Valley Forensic League with the prestigious President’s Award, recognizing four years of excellence in forensics. They also received the Orator’s Cup, the league’s highest distinction, a fitting tribute to their leadership and dedication as co-captains.

At our annual showcase, we celebrated the program's future by inducting more than 24 new members into the National Speech & Debate Association. We also recognized this year’s top performers: Speaker of the Year Daniel Zeman, Most Valuable Performer Jacey Huang, Most Improved Saanvi Nanda, and Rookie of the Year Ella Frigerio.

Looking ahead, the State Championships will take place April 17–19 at James Logan High School in Union City. Competitors will be released early at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, and will coordinate makeup work in advance.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of these dedicated, driven, and exceptional students as they prepare to compete at the state level.
